Ontaria "Kim" Wilson's love for dance was noticed by her mother at the early age of 3 years old. It was then that she entered the world of entertainment through African dance. At age 9 she choreographed her first dance to Afrikka Bambada’s “Planet Rock” for a group of teenage girls who wanted to learn how to pop-lock and king-tut. She was affectionately known as “K Love” to her breaking crew. Kim was the youngest and the only female in her crew. She continued street/hip hop dancing into her teens. In 1990 she became a regular on channel 57’s “One House Street” Dance show hosted by Rennie Harris. In 1991 Rennie asked her to become a member of the internationally known dance company “Rennie Harris Puremovement.” Kim was a dedicated member of Puremovement for six years.
She went on to tour with R and B Recording Artist “Gina Thompson” from 1997 to 1998. Kim choreographed dances and performed for the tour. The most popular song performed was “The Things You Do” produced by Dark Child Productions, Sean Puffy Combs, and Missy Elliot. In 1998-2000 Kim toured with Ruff Ryder’s First Lady “Eve”. She was a featured background dancer with Eve on the following television programs: Soul Train, Motown Live, Conan O’Brien, Showtime at The Apollo, and NFL Under The Helmet.
Kim’s next performance honor was dancing and choreographing for legendary Teddy Pendergrass from 2000 to 2002. She would perform on Teddy’s last live recording “From Teddy With Love.” This live recording was filmed was performed in Los Angeles, California at the Wiltern Theatre. From 2001 to the Present She is working with gospel recording artist Tony Moore and Jehovah’s Chosen/TMJC and TM Muzix. She is the choreographer for the group as well trained alto vocalist. She works with Tony Moore and Junius Birvine to create the vision for TMJC. During this time TMJC has performed with such artists as Common, Patti LaBelle, Sheila E., Jasmine Sullivan, Ruth Naomi Floyd, and more. TMJC was also the featured choir in Bill Dukes 2007 movie “Cover”.
While Kim has performed with many people she also has been featured as a solo artist and performed at the following venues: Philadelphia’s Welcome America as a featured dance artist; Principal dancer in M. Night Shyamalan’s avatar movie “Last Airbender” 2009; Principal Dancer and Actress in the play write “What Happened To The Real You” sponsored Coca Cola and Dell 2009-Present; and The Gate Called Straight Musical Production Executive Directed by Stephanie Mills and Bill Jolly 2010-2011.
In 2012 she wrote and produced her first play entitled "The Healing" directed by Nakia Dillard and co-written by Sabrina Hall.
2013 was her year of transition. She left her job at University of Penn ( the incubus for "The Healing") to pursue her passion for the arts full time. Since then she landed the principal role in the stage play "The Lifestyle" written by Monica Yvette Money and Directed by Bilal Islam; 2014 she played the role of Brenda in Bilal Islams "What Dreams are Made of" ; Keke in Charron Monaye's "Why Can't We Be Friends" anti-bullying play; and Berta/Principal dancer in S.Charli Production "Club 44".
Ontaria is currently the artistic director of Danse4Ever dance school and company located in west Philadelphia; a licensed Zumba instructor; and a performing arts teacher at a local elementary.
She has decided to put on her writer's and director's cap in this new play you are about to experience. Enjoy!
